Training

A Highly Skilled Workforce

We believe a highly skilled and well-trained workforce is necessary both to provide quality care to our clients and career development opportunities to our employees. Our training department supports both, and is one of the most advanced in the area, delivering over 1000 hours of internal training last year!

In the Beginning

All new employees participate in a four day, comprehensive orientation that includes Agency History, Mission, and Values; Employee Benefits and Agency Policies; Client Confidentiality and Professional Ethics; Diversity & Inclusion; First Aid, Universal Precautions, and CPR; Crisis De-escalation and Physical Management training. Training in the areas of Medication Administration, Van Safety and Defensive Driving are also provided for specific roles.

After that, we provide quarterly refresher classes for employees to maintain certification on required skills.

Clinical Training

Our Clinical Training program is a multifaceted annual series designed to bring staff from throughout the agency together to learn and think about diverse clinical topics, treatment issues, and best practices. Workshops range from half day to full day, and are taught by experts in the human service field. Additionally, we utilize the exciting and highly effective teaching modality of Grand Rounds, conducted by our Medical Director to further employees’ understanding of complex clinical issues and to advance their professional development.

Intern Training

We have a reputation as a premier training site for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral level students from throughout the New England area. Our centrally organized, comprehensive intern training program includes hands on experience in the field with clients and families at more than 20 different sites, direct observation of clinical treatment, extensive clinical supervision, and participation in Grand Rounds. We also offer an advanced Family Therapy Institute, and an academic lecture series, The Clinical Work With Children and Families, for graduate interns.
