Adventure Challenge Experience

A Decade of Adventure

Our Adventure Challenge Experience (ACE) Program began in 2007, and today is a highly successful therapeutic recreation program. ACE helps our clients to overcome the deep-seated trust issues that can result from trauma and abuse, while developing problem solving and communication skills.

Experiential Education

The foundation of therapeutic recreation is experiential education, including real-world healthy conflict resolution and collaborative problem-solving. The program works to increase self-esteem, and encourages youth to build trust with peers and adults, while teaching appropriate social and physical risk-taking. The ACE Program is based upon the concept of challenge-by-choice – giving youth the power to choose their level of participation as they are presented with each new challenge.

Tools & Techniques for Every Group

ACE employs a wide variety of tools and techniques, from games that utilize sports equipment, to group activities using items like Chiji processing cards, dice, mini treasure chests, and more. The ACE Facilitator uses his or her training to incorporate these tools into the activities in a manner that will be most effective for each unique group.

High & Low Ropes Course

In addition to the games and activities which can be accomplished in a classroom setting, the ACE Program features a licensed, state-of-the art ropes course located on the grounds of our Cottage Hill Academy. This safe and exciting Challenge Course is an outstanding tool that helps any child overcome great emotional challenges, and for many it can be a turning point in their treatment. The Challenge Course is also an extremely popular visit for clients participating in the agency’s various summer programs, as well as for YOU, Inc. staff and outside groups who may rent the facility for team-building exercises.

Rentals & Training

Rentals of the ACE course are available for school groups, businesses, and other interested parties, with required instruction by our certified ACE Facilitators. ACE facilitators can also contract for on-site trainings for school districts, sports teams, etc. Please contact Tyler Reynolds at reynoldst@youinc.org to inquire and for more information.

The ACE Program is a key component of many YOU, Inc. therapeutic and educational programs; please note that individual clients participating in ACE activities must be enrolled in a YOU, Inc. program.
