YOU Inc. Welcomes Record Turnout at 2014 Legislative Breakfast
On Friday, March 7th a contingent of eleven State Rpresentatives and two Representatives’ designees, three State Senators, staff from the offices of Congressman Jim McGovern and Senator Elizabeth Warren, as well as four Worcester City Councilors, joined the YOU Inc. Board of Directors and staff at our annual Legislative Breakfast.
This year’s agenda focused on the urgent need to increase funding to the Department of Children and Families, specifically in the areas of direct services for children and families, family support and stabilization programming, and congregate/group care. YOU Inc. President and CEO Beth Folcarelli also urged legislators to preserve and support funding for Provider Lead Agencies. Lead Agencies play a critical role in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, assisting families involved with DCF to navigate through the complexities of the child welfare system. Each DCF Area Office works in partnership with a Lead Agency to coordinate an array of Family Network services designed to support DCF’s mission of protecting children, reunifying families, and supporting permanency. Y.O.U. Inc. serves as the Lead Agency for the Worcester West DCF office. In this Lead Agency role, we manage an expansive, integrated system of purchasing services that connects children and families with vital mental health care.
YOU Inc.’s Government Affairs Committee is chaired by Board member Roy Angel, Vice President at MassDevelopment. Roy and his committee presented retiring State Representative George Peterson (R-Grafton) with framed artwork created by a resident youth from YOU Inc.’s Grafton House program. Representative Peterson was recognized for his enduring support of the agency’s programming throughout Central MA – and for his own work in the legislature on behalf of children and families.
