The Alternative to Lockup Program (ALP) provides emergency overnight or short-term foster care for juveniles aged 7 to 17 under arrest for status offenses and non-violent delinquency charges.
The program operates from 3 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekdays, and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. Local police departments contact the program, and an ALP staff member arranges to meet the juvenile at the police station for transport to a foster care or staff-secure facility for care until the next business day. The staff then transports the client to his or her court appearance, and released to the custody of the court officer.
The Alternative to Lockup Program serves boys and girls ages 7 to 17.
