The Acquiring Strength to Change and Empower through New Discoveries (ASCEND) program is an outpatient group that helps middle and high school-aged girls to develop life skills and increase their self-confidence, while fostering positive connections with their peers and adult female role models. A more structured, three-day per week ASCEND group specifically for middle school girls is funded by the Women’s Initiative of the United Way of Central MA.
The ASCEND program’s girls typically have poor interpersonal relationships and communication skills, and many are struggling with academic failure. In some cases these teens may have a history of out of home placements and court involvement. The ASCEND program helps these young women to develop coping skills, improve their self-confidence, and develop more positive and productive relationships with their family and friends. The program offers 24 hour on-call support to clients, as well as a six-week summer program for middle school girls.
The ASCEND program serves girls between the ages of 11 and 17.
