Our Wish List
|
As an organization that spends 78% of our annual
budget on personnel, we know that our human resources are our most important asset. It is
the people at Y.O.U., Inc. who, day in and day out, make a difference in the lives of the
vulnerable children in our care. If we could double the amount of private revenue
generated each year, these three positions would be at the top of our wish list:
 | Psychiatry: Currently, our Medical Director is serving the double
function of overseeing the quality of care at the agency as well as providing direct care.
We would endow a Chair of Psychiatry for the organization to insure that this critical
position could be funded each year. The need for psychiatrists being involved in the
treatment of our clients has vastly increased as the number of children being treated with
psychotropic medication has increased. Currently, 86% of the children in our residential
programs are taking such medications. |
 | An Education and Training Coordinator: Although we currently serve
as a training site for area colleges and universities, we need to upgrade and expand our
education and training for undergraduate and graduate students. We could utilize interns
in many more of our programs and provide a valuable resource for educational institutions
if we had someone to oversee its implementation. |
 | A Recruitment and Retention Coordinator: The economy is booming
and jobs are easy to find. Y.O.U., Inc. is operating with a 24% overall turnover rate, and
more than a 50% turnover rate for child care workers and teachers because of a variety of
reasons. Someone devoting time to this problem could devise strategies to recruit and
retain staff, especially in these two critical areas. This person could also initiate and
oversee a Relief Pool for our residential programs, which would make a huge difference in
managing sick and vacation schedules. |
The contracts Y.O.U., Inc. has with the major payors for our
services do not cover the cost of these types of positions; they only cover the cost of
the service itself. We count on the commitment of our donors to maintain our excellent
quality of care and our leadership role in the child welfare field. Adding these three
positions would keep us on the cutting edge and increase program excellence. |
