With a new name but the same
mission, Cottage Hill Academy (formerly the Protestant Youth Center) recently became part
of the Y.O.U., Inc. continuum of
residential programs.
Y.O.U., Inc. is committed to transforming this school into one of
the finest residential programs for girls in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The
five-year plan is to create a campus-like environment that will provide services for 48
girls, with five separate living units or "cottages," a main
school/administration building, a playing field, and connecting paths through the woods
and around the existing pond. In order to accomplish this plan, we will need the support
of the northern Worcester county community.
Adolescent girls who are referred to Cottage Hill Academy exhibit
behaviors that put them at risk. Their behavior is often an indicator of neglect, physical
or sexual abuse, abandonment, or post-traumatic stress disorder.
We have retained the architectural firm of Dore and Whittier from
Burlington, Vermont to begin work on the design and staff and volunteers have already
begun putting in "sweat equity" to benefit the facilities. When completed, this
unique facility will be one in which the entire community can take pride of ownership.
