Description
The Short term Foster Care program provides out-of-home placement for six-eight weeks to DSS-involved youth. Foster Care casework staff work with placed youth, his or her birth families and other service providers to assess strengths and needs. A Service Plan is devised and program staff support the family, foster family, the youth and other providers in implementing plan.
Population
The program serves approximately 5-10 children and adolescents up to the age of 18 that need placement out of their home because their family home is currently not an appropriate placement or their own behavior puts them at risk. Youth may require out of home placement because of inadequate care at home, physical or sexual abuse, neglect, substance abuse, or domestic violence. In addition to family problems they may have a variety of behaviors including difficulty following rules and managing their anger, school truancy, and running away.
