Positive Parent Coaching

Program Snapshot

The Positive Parent Coaching program is designed to help parents who may be struggling with their parenting duties to learn about the child’s developmental stages, practice appropriate disciplinary techniques, and more effectively communicate with their children. Many clients who participate in the program have been identified by other state or private child welfare agencies as needing structured coaching and mentoring in order to improve their parenting skills, and ensure a safe and nurturing home environment for their children.

The Positive Parent Coaching program is a twelve-week, in-home program using the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) program. Parents meet with their coach two to three times per week for the first four weeks, followed by weekly visits for eight weeks. The “step down” approach of the program allows parents to gradually take ownership of their progress, and implement the new skills and approaches they’ve learned independently, yet still under the guidance of their coach.
