Program Snapshot

As part of its work within the Together for Kids coalition, Y.O.U., Inc. developed a unique and comprehensive Early Childhood Mental Health component that has grown to offer a continuum of early childhood mental health services at child care facilities across Northern, Southern, and Central Worcester County. Our services fall into two general categories: the Consultation Model, and the Embedded Model. In both models, our highly trained, Masters-level clinicians offer on-site consulting services for children who are exhibiting aggressive or disruptive behaviors in the classroom.

These clinicians use a variety of play therapy, storytelling, artwork, and other creative techniques to help children learn anger management and relaxation skills, discover ways to slow down their impulsive tendencies, and manage their anxiety. They accomplish this through individual, group, and family therapy sessions, and are consequently able to identify developmental delays at their earliest stages, when intervention provides the most long-term benefit.

Our clinicians also offer classroom observation services, and provide invaluable training to teachers on issues and topics such as managing difficult behaviors, bullying, developing a trauma sensitive classroom, ADHD behaviors, confidentiality, teaching children about diversity, and team building techniques for teachers.

ECMH staff can also assist with referrals to additional Early Intervention services available in the individual school systems -- as well as to other Y.O.U., Inc. supportive services such as Positive Parenting, medication evaluations, psychological testing, and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder evaluations.
