Bruce Wells Scholars Upward Bound

Achieving College One Student at a Time

Our Bruce Wells Scholars Upward Bound program provides promising but at-risk high school students in the Worcester Public Schools with the opportunity to achieve their dreams of a college education. The program combines intensive academic supports with college and career planning, life skills education, and a strong emphasis on family participation to prepare students to successfully matriculate to and complete higher education.

The program offers two distinct and different components during the year:
Academic Year Component
through which the program supports student educational achievement and success; assists students with academic, post-secondary, and career planning; and, guides families with college planning. Students and their parents/guardians receive information about the financial aid process and are afforded opportunities to visit the campuses of four-year colleges and universities.
Summer Component
a six-week academic enrichment program that is held on the Clark University campus during the summer months. Students reside in Clark University dormitory rooms, serve as paid interns at worksites throughout Worcester, and take courses in Clark University classrooms. Students also visit cultural attractions and some of New England’s finest four-year colleges and universities.
In addition to the above, we also provide the following services:
Post-secondary career and college planning
Assessment of educational needs, and individualized plans for educational development
Appropriate support services to ensure a successful secondary school experience
Group team building and individual self-exploration
Assistance with the completion of college and financial aid applications
