Description

The Kathleen Burns Preparatory school is a 502.5 special education program serving students with behavioral and emotional needs. The KBPS program offers small group academic classes (grades 5-12). Students have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) that is developed by a school district team and specifies the student’s disability, goals and
objectives for an educational placement. KBPS includes social skills development , adventure based learning, counseling groups, and behavior management.

Population

30-36 students from grades 5-12 are referred by Special Education Departments of their sending school districts. Other service providers may recommend to school districts that KBPS be considered for a student. Students are referred for emotional, behavioral and learning problems that have interfered with progress in less restrictive education settings.
