Description
The McGrath Educational Center is a 502.5 special education program serving students with behavioral and emotional needs. The school provides a safe, consistent and supportive environment where students receive secondary level instruction in academic and vocational areas (woodworking, culinary arts, graphic arts, and work-study). Emphasis is placed on structure, positive reinforcement, consequential learning, responsibility and a success orientation. Other features of the school include a summer program, which focuses on extended vocational training and/or work experiences. All students receive a pre-employment training workshop focusing on job application completion, job search skills, career planning, interview techniques and workplace responsibilities.
Population
The McGrath Educational Center has a capacity of 49-64 students, aged between 13 and 22. The McGrath Educational Center is for adolescents at the secondary level needing an alternative special education program due to emotional difficulties, truancy, academic failure, verbally/physically abusive behavior, low self-esteem, socialization problem, ADD/ADHD, post traumatic stress disorder, and physical involvement.
