Joy and Robert Wetzel Children's Center

Family Support Services

The Wetzel Center places engagement and support of families at the center
of it's approach to treatment.

Family members are contacted daily or near daily by clinicians or childcare workers with updates on their child’s progress, and speak frequently with
Wetzel medical staff about the child’s health and medication matters.

Parents are systematically invited, as full participants, to case reviews and planning meetings. In
addition to weekend visiting opportunities, the program is able to arrange for additional therapeutic
and unstructured contact during weekdays or evenings.

Parents are also invited to a monthly “Parent’s Night” at the program that includes visiting with children, education and skill-building, and reciprocal support in a group format. For children without identifiable family resources, Wetzel clinicians, in collaboration with non-parental guardians, may also search for
other potentially permanent relationships that might be cultivated.

Regular family therapy is conducted whenever possible, and is also a regular feature of clinical activity
at the Wetzel Center.
