Y.O.U.,
Inc. has developed a plan to provide for these needs through
three key efforts; finding existing capacity in some of the
many private schools located throughout Kenya, arranging for
these schools to accept the children as students, and arranging
for foster or group homes to provide the children with reliable
food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. Pre-set standards
of care will determine which schools or foster homes will
qualify for funding, and placement of children within these
programs will be through a grant process administered by an
Non-Governmental Organization established by the agency. In
collaboration with the Child Welfare League of Kenya, foster
care and group homes will be established. A researcher in
Nairobi will pre-screen facilities, and obtain data on the
expected costs of providing services for children using this
model. Data shows that with $20,000, 10 children could be
fed, clothed, housed, and educated for one year, as well as
pay a full-time staff person to administer the program in
Nairobi. One hundred percent of money raised will go directly
to the education and care of these young people.
Currently,
as the International Welfare Committee is working with local
and national church groups and businesses to raise money for
these services. The goal is to begin this program with 10
children between the ages of 5 and 10 in the fall of 2007.
Y.O.U., Inc. will be reviewing this program annually utilizing
the same high standards of quality used to review our programs
in the United States. If this approach proves successful,
expansion of this program will occur through additional funding
for each consecutive year.
