Joe is an eight year old boy who recently lost his dad.  He and his mom are looking for a positive male role model to spend time with him once a week.

Joe is a friendly, outgoing boy who loves playing video games, basketball, and baseball. He needs help with his homework and needs someone to improve his self-esteem. His favorite food is ice cream. Just a few hours a week would make a great difference in his life.

What is a Mentor?
A mentor is a person who makes a difference in someone’s life. A mentor is a volunteer or intern
who is selected and trained to work both individually and in a group with adolescents.

What does a Mentor do?
A mentor is a positive role model for the adolescent and will help him or her to build strong self-esteem. An effective mentor guides the adolescent in school performance, teaches them new skills,
and may encourage them to participate in sports or other activities.

What are the requirements to be a Mentor?
Mentors must be at least 18 years of age, have access to a car, provide three letters of recommendation, and have 2 to 6 hours per week to spend in the program. Creativity and
responsibility are special traits. Bilingual skills are a plus, but are not required.

What are the benefits of being a Mentor?
By becoming a mentor you will develop your communicative abilities and learn techniques to
positively influence and direct behaviors of adolescents. You will help to build a better community
while enhancing your resume with volunteer work. Most importantly, you will have the rewarding
experience of helping a child!

How can I become a Mentor?
Call our Mentoring Program at Y.O.U, Inc. to set up an interview, and we will help you to make a difference in somebody’s life. For more information on Mentoring, click here.
